OpenAI is celebrating the first birthday of ChatGPT on November 30th, , 2023 and they have some big news to share. They've made important changes to their leadership and teamed up with others to show their dedication to making artificial general intelligence (AGI) better. The key news is that Sam Altman is back as the CEO, Mira Murati is now the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) again, and Greg Brockman is back as the President. This shake-up also comes with the creation of a new board, including Microsoft in a role where they can observe but not vote.
Sam Altman coming back as the CEO is a smart move for OpenAI. He's known for being a great leader and had a role as the co-chair before becoming the CEO. Mira Murati, who was temporarily in charge as the interim CEO, is now back to her old job as the Chief Technology Officer. Greg Brockman, one of the founders of OpenAI, is back as the President, contributing to a new leadership structure that aims to help the organization achieve its big goals.
OpenAI didn't just change leadership; they also introduced a new board with important people from the industry. Bret Taylor, a tech executive, is now the board chair. Larry Summers and Adam D’Angelo also joined. Microsoft is part of this board, but they can't vote; they're there to observe. This partnership shows OpenAI's efforts to work closely with big players in the industry.
Including Microsoft on the board is a big deal and shows how closely the two companies are working together. OpenAI is confident about this collaboration, pointing out that Microsoft is there as an observer without a voting role. This move fits with OpenAI's commitment to learning from industry giants like Microsoft, working together to improve AGI research and development.
OpenAI is happy to share that some employees who left before have come back. People like Jakub, Szymon, and Aleksander have rejoined. Their return shows they believe in OpenAI's mission, making the company's talent pool stronger and ensuring they keep pushing the boundaries in AI.
With a new leadership team and partnerships in place, OpenAI has three main goals right now. First, they want to advance research, showing their dedication to making AGI even better. Second, they're focusing on making their existing products better and getting them out there. Third, they want to make sure AGI benefits everyone, emphasizing responsible development and use of artificial intelligence.
